My Trail Review:

This trail is part of a three trail loop. We started out early going up the mountain on TR 28, then across the top on TR 111 and then back down on TR 533. This is a really sweet combo of trails offering the best of what northern Arizona day hiking has to offer with its scenic views, vistas, Ponderoza Pines, high desert fauna, just enough difficulty and exertion to feel like you accomplished something special for your time and effort.

Caution! I had some difficulty finding the entrance to the trail coming south on FR 105. What looked like a little fire pit picnic area to me had obscurred the tiny trail path to the entrance 75 to 100 feet back and to the right of that area. You will see a brown forest service sign marking the Ashcreek Watershed Improvement Project (if it is still there - see the photo gallery for a pic of it) just past the entrance. In other words when you see that sign coming from TR 111 on FR 105 look to your right for the entrance to TR 533.

Once you get into the trail you find it goes west along a ridge for about a half of a mile and then descends steeply into Yeager Canyon with a series of switchbacks with great views of the valley below and surrounding mountains where it ends at the same trail head we started up at off  Highway 89A in the Yeager Canyon.

Loved this 3 trail looper that I hiked in this order ...

MAP AND DIRECTION TIPS
West Trail Head
: Coming from the Prescott area the west trail head for TR 533 (and TR 28) is located off Highway 89A at a point about 1.5 miles east of the twin power transmission lines crossing the highway just inside the western Prescott National Forest boundary. Keep an eye on the right side of the road and you will see a small pull off parallel parking area alongside the road. When you look back into the wash area behind this pull off you will see a sign, entrance gate and small cattle crossing bridge marking the trail heads.
