DIRECTIONS
From downtown Prescott go east on Gurley Street. Cross Senator Highway then take the next right (south) on S. Virginia St. You will travel a few blocks and enter the West Trailhead parking area.

Loop Trail is accessible from this trailhead and parking area by looping to it through a very short distance on Ridge Trail. You can also do the same from the South Foothills Trailhead.

REGIONAL AREA: J.S. Acker Memorial Park -
Loop Trail is within the City of Prescott, Arizona Parks and Recreation supervision.

Acker Park is snuggled in between subdivision developments in the city of Prescott. It has easy access from 3 city street trailheads, has little elevation, well maintained wide trails and you are never far from a parking trailhead area.

Overall the Acker Park is top of the line Prescott area outdoors city hiking. Great views, quiet peaceful vistas where you do see some housing and city developments but you also get some awesome vistas of other peaks and mountain tops along the way.

April 2008
This is a fun short city park hiking trail. Little to no elevation change, lots of shade along the way and even some great views of the area including some good vista views of Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain.

I looped this trail in from Ridge Trail making a full circle out of the hike and ending back where I started at the West Trailhead parking area. The entrance to the hiking trail on both sides and the trail itself is well marked and easy to follow. You will find benches to sit down on along the way to rest and enjoy the views.

I met a lady with 2 small dogs and a couple is all on the trail today. It was a beautiful clear blue sky warm and sunny spring morning - I started out on the main trail at about 10:15am and found the Loop Trail about noon. Silver and I took a rest and water in the shade on a trail bench by the dry creek bed area. It was very warm in the sun today but a cool breeze moved through this shaded woods area making it a great place to take a break.

We walked through an area with many Blue Bird Nesting Boxes. Did not see any Blue Birds today. Nothing much moving along the trail when we passed through but we were out on it the heat of the day.

Loop Trail makes a good short day hike. You can make a "looper" out of it by connecting it to the Ridge Trail and then add on some more when you connect up the Ridge Trail to the Hilltop and / or East Trails too!

Enjoy the Hike!
