My Trail Review:
April 2007
This is a short little connecting trail that you will need to use to get to and complete several of the trails in the park. The trail is wide, well set up and well maintained. The first section starts next to the paved Forest Service road and heads north through tall pines. You will go through a horse gate and continue up into scenic rocky boulder areas.
Beware. You will see a pic in this group of a large old dead pine that fell on the trail the day or two before I hiked through. The forest services warns that in windy weather there is a very strong possility that trees could fall over onto the trail or on YOU - so when you are hiking in these areas be sure to be aware of that possibility, stay alert and take appropriate action.
Bikers and horses were out on the trail with me today.
Enjoy the Hike!

MAP AND DIRECTION TIPS
From downtown Prescott take Montezuma North - it turns into Whipple and then into Iron Springs Road. Stay on Iron Springs Road all the way out of Prescott. Watch on your right for Forest Road 374, turn right into the Granite Basin Recreational Area on Forest Road 374. You will drive back into the area on this 2 lane blacktop for some ways then just before the Granite Basin Lake parking area you will see a fee parking area on your right. Trail maps are normally by fee box.
