Regional area of Little Mountain Granite Trail : in the Granite Basin Recreational Area of the Prescott National Forest, near Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Yavapai County, Arizona.

DIRECTIONS
From downtown Prescott take Montezuma North - it turns into Whipple and then into Iron Springs Road. Go past the Forest Service FR 374 access road to Granite Basin Recreational Area (goes to the lake and camping areas) and travel about a mile further west on Iron Springs road. You will see the Trail Head parking area immediately off the highway on your right.

April 2007

This trail is exotic. High desert, mountain trail views, deep valley views, boulders of amazing shapes and proportions, a mixed trail type that joins up with valley pine trails. Will be hot in the summer as you are exposed with little shade on the trail. Towards the end we went through a "lightning strike" area that has taken out almost every juniper tree that ever was able to grow into that dry climate - a real wonder of the forest. Check it out as you go through - look through the gallery for the tree that had a round one foot hole blown right through it and the charred remains of several others plus rock formations that have eroded into the clear and obvious image of large animals ... wow!

Enjoy the Hike!
