My Trail Review:
April 2007
This trail is awesome and about as good as it gets for a forest service type trail. Well maintained and a well designed horse and hiking trail. Wonderful scenic views, diverse landscapes that take you through pine forests, winding hillside trails, colorful eroded boulder outcroppings, grasslands, mountain views, valley views, cactus, pine, pinion pine, juniper, and some cottonwoods along the way too.
I did see a few bikers, horse "couples" and even a tour type horse "train" on the trail. Beware that some of these riders and especially the tour trail leaders aggressively express they have the right of way on the trail expecting you to immediately know what to do and how get out of their way, even if you are surprised by them coming around a blind curve and have nowhere to easily go to get out of their way. Others are completely novice horse riders and so will not know what to do with the horse if you are in their way.
Stay alert and be careful and prepared to move yourself, family and pets quickly out of harms way in these areas of the trail.
The trail rules are hikers give way to horses and bikers give way to hikers and horses.
This trail will fit into all the alternative hiking schemes. You can start or finish at either primary trailhead.
Enjoy the Hike!
