My trail hike review --- My trail rating: 2.5

Regional area of Schreck Tank Trail: in the Prescott National Forest, Lynx Lake Recreational Area, near Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Yavapai County, Arizona.
DIRECTIONS
Take highway 69 to Walker Road (County Road 57). Turn south on Walker Road for about 1.5 miles, to 9401T . Turn left onto this gravel access road, just after you see the sign (see photo gallery) to the Lynx Creek Ruin Trail TR 301 and Salida Gulch trailhead parking areas. Follow the gravel road all the way to the end where you will find ample parking.
You will know you are at the end when you see a gated blacktop entrance that leads into a residential area. It is about 1.5 miles back on a rough rocky but accesible forest access type gravel road. Use caution, drive slowly and watch for other vehicles, animals and persons on the winding road. There was not any fee boxes at the Trailhead so seeing a Gila County Sheriff passing through I asked him about it and he said this was not a fee parking area. It is right next to a residential area and you may see motorized vehicles entering and leaving here.
April 2008
I reached the trailhead about high noon today and it was getting warm in the direct sun but more like a really warm spring day than hot summer. The sky was deep blue with no clouds and a light cool breeze was noticible in shaded areas.
I parked by the natural wood fence and found the trailhead to TR9263 well marked which lead me down into the creek bed and across the cool water trying to step and stay on small rocks - oops - slipped off and got my feet wet but it was very shallow and the cool clear water felt great. Silver knew just what to do and sat down in it!
Up over the the other side and then through a gate and onto the trail. A very short distance and I saw the trail markings for TR93 which I would return on as a "looper" today.
The trail heads gently up and down and then on to higher ground peaking up at Schreck Tank which is what I call this trail as it is only listed with the number TR9263. There are some good vista views at the top where you can see Granite Mountain in the distance and most the other peaks and tanks in the area too. Prescott area residential housing can also be seen along the way and off in the distance. I saw and took pics of several different varieties of wild flowers that were in bloom today. Did not see or hear much on the trail but I did show up in the heat of the day and this is desert high country.
There is not much shade till you get to the other side of the tank and start going back down. Silver and I stopped in that area and watered up. Shortly after we came to the interconnection of TR93 Salida Gulch Trail and looped back to the trailhead on it.
The trail is well marked, fairly wide, and it looks well used by local motorized vehicles like atv's, cycles, etc. I also saw horse hoof prints on the softer trail mix areas.
This trail makes a good connector trail to get deeper into the east side of the Lynx Lake Recreation trail areas.
Enjoy the Hike!
