My trail rating: 1.5
My Trail Review:
August 2009
This is a connecting trail to TR 548 and then TR 547 and can be used as part of a loop section, see the Forest Service Web Sites pdf map.
I found the Trailhead on the south side of the parking area and marked. This trail starts out in the meadow then drops some altitude as it winds it way down into the gulch and on to the dead end connection with TR 548.
I started out about 7:30 am after a little difficulty finding the trailhead parking as there was no signage on the highway, yet once I got onto the trail and moving it was a wonderful cooler summer type morning with blue skys and lots of beauty all around me. There is plenty of shade on this trail as you move into the Ponderosa Pines and a soft coating of pine needles on the trail mix.
Someone was kind enough to mark this trail often with rock piles so if there was a doubt of which direction to go I always found a pile near by to guide me forward in the right direction.
The trail winds down into the gulch through the pine forest with the feeling few hikers use this trail very often so it has a "wild" sort of feeling to it with sections of the trail just a shoe print wide through grassy areas.
Pleasant short hike down to the connecting trail point today.
Enjoy the Hike!

MAP AND DIRECTION TIPS
If coming from Jerome you go about 7 miles south on 89A to about 1/2 a mile north of the FSR 104 turnoff - so if you get to the FSR 104 just turn around and go back north till you see a little pull off parking area on the east side of the highway that is fenced in. There were no signs on the highway identifying the trailhead. Look for the trailhead entrance to TR550 on the south side of the parking area.
