January 2007

The trail begins from the trail head parking area climbing over 700 feet in 2.7 miles through manzanita, Pinon pine, mountain mahogany and low-growing oak. I enjoyed the excellent scenic area views including those of Lynx Lake, Lynx Creek drainage area, Prescott Valley, and distant mountain ranges where I could even see the snow covered San Francisco peaks above Flagstaff. The trail is rather easy to see and follow. In the first mile or so from the trail head just ignore the few "spur" trails that show up and stay on what looks like the main trail. There is housing along the eastern sides of the trail in a few places along the way. You will find a few woodsy home made benches to sit down and take a break on at the lower end of the trail. I enjoyed the walk through this nature area. I found it was a great day to hike the trail as it was still cooler yet sunny but since the trail has little shade directly on it on the steep climb I still felt comfortable. This trail climbs steadily upwards most all the way so be prepared to exert yourself. About a half mile from the end you will see the Boy Scout TR 126 junction where the trail climbs another 200 feet ending in Ponderosa pine at its junction with Seven Mile Gulch TR 9854.

Enjoy the Hike!
