My trail hike review --- My trail rating: 1.5

Regional area of West Trail : in the Thumb Butte Recreational Area, Prescott National Forest, near Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Yavapai County, Arizona.
DIRECTIONS
Take Gurley St (Prescott, Az - Gurley becomes Thumb Butte Road) west from downtown Prescott about 3 miles. Park in the picnic parking lot area. Also see "more info" tab at top of page for Forest Service Trail Map link.
January 2007
I entered the trail off Pine Lakes Trail TR 316 that starts at the north end of the Thumb Butte Picnic fee parking area. It was a cool but not cold winter day. Gray skies and a little bit of snow on the ground here and there.
This is forest type trail with some burn areas and allot of dry stuff from the recent drought. I saw lots of pinion pine, scrub oak, ponderosa pine, manzanita and pickly pear cactus along the way. Not much wild life today, it was quiet.
The trail feels more remote than what it is. It's a short city type park trail with some good views of the San Francisco Peaks in a few spots. I came out on the FR 9401B side and then walked back down the forest service road to Thumb Butte Road then to the parking area.
This trail will make good family day hike. Not too long or difficult. Close to the city.
Enjoy the Hike!
