Regional area of West Spruce Trail : in the Prescott National Forest, near Prescott, Skull Valley, Yavapai County, Arizona.
My trail rating: 2.5
My Trail Review:
May 2007
I had stumbled into parts of this trail area doing "hoonoo" trails with a long time area resident and former forest service worker (many many years ago) who liked to take his dog out on hikes with mine. I decided I had to come back and find this trail and take it all the way to the vista view area at FR 47B.
I parked at the trailhead and followed the trail along the ridge line. The trail mix here is shaded in Juniper pines and easy to follow. I crossed a few connecting trail / access road type paths that cris cross through the area to other ridges and sections. Don't let these confuse you, just stay on the path that looks more like a real trail.
Reaching FR47B you will find some awesome vistas of the Skull Valley area below. There is a lot of local history along the way and at the view here too. I brought along a light snack and Silver and I watered down then headed back the way we came to the trailhead parking.
Interesting trail and hike. This trail feels more remote and a bit less maintained and marked than others in the area but over all well worth the time and effort.
Enjoy the Hike!
