My Trail Review:

Fall 2006

You can start out on this trail from the front of the campground to the left of the main trail entrance sign and posted map. It follows the creek up the ravine towards the top of the Rim. It is not very steep in grade or difficult in trail mix.

The trail is heavily used, jeep service type wide in several areas and very easy to follow. You can take your time and enjoy the views along the way or you can stop and enjoy pools of light tricking water as they fall over rocks moving down the creek into the valley below.

At the top you will find the natural spring that feeds Horton Creek. You can review my photos in the gallery to get a better idea of what to expect. This area is well shaded so you can find a spot to sit down, water up and even have a picnic lunch.

Very enjoyable trail hike. I recommend putting this one on your list of must hike Rim Country Trails.

Enjoy the Rim!

MAP AND DIRECTION TIPS
Go east out of Payson, Arizona on Highway 260 which is an excellent scenic Rim Country highway. When you see Khol's Ranch come up on your right, slow down and watch to your left (north) side of the highway for the well marked Tonto Creek Campground turnoff. Turn left on Tonto Creek Road, a blacktop road, and drive up into the campground area. You will come to a bend to the left and cross over a small bridge, parking is on the left. You will find plenty of parking and toilets. Walk back across the bridge and follow well marked signs to trail entrance.
