My Trail Review:
Summer 2006
This is one of my Rim Country favorite trails. It is a more difficult day hike but very enjoyable. It has a good mixture of tall pine forest, rocky crags, eco real old dead wood and fallen trees, moist and shady pine needle paths with an adventure trail feel sort of like a "hidden valley" mystique as it winds through the ravines and then up the side of the canyon to the top of the rim.
Along the way you get a peek of vistas to the south overlooking the highway below and then as you mount the top of the rim awesome panoramic views across the whole south eastern area. The trail comes out on the top at Forest Service Road FR 300 where there are turnoffs with parking and picnic tables with view areas. I stopped and watered down and ate lunch here enjoying the moment.
To get to the historic Military Sinkhole you then cross over FR 300 and continue on into Coconino Forest area about 1/2 mile till you get to a clearing. Didn't find much to look at there that identified the history and location then turned around and hiked back down to the trailhead parking area.
Enjoy the Rim!

You will pass by Christopher Creek turnoffs travel a couple more miles then begin the grade up to the top of the Rim.
