My Trail Review:
Fall 2006
The parking is limited and rough but welcoming. I geared up and headed through a baricade and onto a atv / jeep type trail that is rumored to be old logging road. It leads up a slight climb towards the northwest and onto Red Rock Spring.
It was a pleasant sunny cool day and the hike was very enjoyable. As I climbed to the top of the trail there were some very good vista views of the valley below to the south and southwest.
As pulled out onto FR 64 to return home I passed a couple deer coming out of the brush a few hundred yards up from the parking area. You can find a few photos in the gallery at the end.
Excellent light to medium day hike selection. Lush high desert fauna, quiet, remote yet not too far off the highway or from Pine and Payson, Arizona.
Enjoy the Rim!

MAP AND DIRECTION TIPS
Take the very scenic two lane Highway 87 north out of Payson to the Control Road FS 64 which will be on your right (east) side of the road shortly after you pass the entrance to the Tonto Natural Bridge. Take this gravel road about 2 miles until you see the Red Rock Trailhead pulloff on your left (north) side of the road.
