My Trail Review:

Fall 2006
The beginning part of the trail is lower forest land with grass and Pines then after you cross the See Spring Creek
you will begin a steady climb up the ravine to the top of the Rim. This is classic Ponderosa Pine forest in the Rim Country. There is lots of fauna, trickling spring creeks and shaded areas. Many of the trees were changing to their fall colors and often I turned a switch back or crested a hill to a burst of seasonal sparkling color.

Moving up the ravine to the top of the Rim the trail narrows with lots of craggy rock outcroppings, fallen dead wood and tall Ponderosa Pines reaching up into the fresh mountain air all around you. I found Pine Canyon Trail rather exotic, quiet and earthy. As you come out of the ravine onto the top the terrain flattens and opens up as you then wind your way to the Forest Road 300 Trailhead entrance.

I enjoyed this trail and recommend it. It is a more difficult trail so be sure you are in shape for it, watch the weather, suit up for it and bring along the appropriate gear.

Enjoy the Rim!

MAP AND DIRECTION TIPS
Go east out of Payson, Arizona on Highway 260 an excellent scenic Rim Country highway which you will travel east for some time on. When you see the first turnoff to Christopher Creek's downtown area on your left (north) side of the road, turn and drive into town watching on your left for the FR 284 entrance. Turn left (north) on FR 284, a gravel forest service road, and travel about 2 miles to the See Canyon Trailhead. You will find plenty of parking, toilets and even a corral for horses. Follow well marked signs to trail entrance.
