Things to be aware of: · No motorized vehicles are allowed. Be aware that the trail is not marked with signs very well but it is rather easy to follow. There were no trail signs that mark where the trail turns (left - east) to Boy Scout Trail (126) but when you get to a grassy meadow area about 2 miles in with a lots of cut and piled pine that has an old jalopy body shell with fenders laying around (see photo gallery) that is where you will go left (east) and follow the trail through the meadow and into the creek ravine where you will meet up with Boy Scout Trail in about half a mile. See "more info" tab at top of page for Forest Service Trail Map link.
Regional area of Turley Trail: adjoining to the Prescott National Forest, near Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Yavapai County, Arizona.

My Trail Review:
January 2007
Started on the trail about 10:30am. It was very cool in the am so I layered my clothing for the hike. I found by early afternoon when the sun came out and the sky cleared I needed to peel a few layers off. You will see some snow on the trail pics for this hike. There was a light covering in several places where the sun had not been able to melt it off yet, but all in all it was a very pleasant hike as far as the weather went.
The trail has been worked over for hiking and is in rather good condition all the way. It is a mix of light sandy material, stones and larger rocks. There are some areas with larger granite boulders and logs that interupt the trail primarily to prevent ATV vehicles from using the trail.
There was some background noise on the first part of the trail as I was leaving the residential surrounding area but once I got deeper into the forest I was struck with the shear silence of the forest - much like I have found in other areas of Arizona. I love it! It is agreat time to enjoy the quiet solitude and reflect on the beauty surrounding me. I did not see any critters on this hike other than a flock of sparrows streaking through and a couple large black birds screaching at each other.
The trail makes for a good day trip hike. It took me about 3.5 hours to do both the Turley Trail and the Boy Scout Trail and get back to the trail head. The terrain is enjoyable in diversion starting with scrub and pinnion pine and moving into tall pine and great views of the Prescott area. I also enjoyed the way the trail meanders around and up and downthe hills. You get a pretty good work out yet without a constant uphill climb.
Enjoy the Hike!

MAP AND DIRECTION TIPS
NOTE: The best way into the trail head that I found was to go east on Gurley from downtown Prescott to Overland (which is the last street just before the bend that changes Gurley into Rt 69) - turn (right) ie south on Overland - then (left) on Butterfield - then (right) on Wells Fargo. Take Wells Fargo up around a bend then just before you get to the sharp left turn in the road you will see a sign on the right side marking the gravel road entrance to the Turley Trail Head. Go up the gravel road to the gate, open and close the gate behind you and proceed to the trail head parking area. About 5 to 6 cars will fit the parking area.
